An output increase of an internal combustion engine (10) should normally be executed promptly. To at least temporarily satisfy an output increase of an internal combustion engine (10) promptly, a disclosed method for supporting an output increase when operating the internal combustion engine (10) includes steps of: supplying supercharged air and fuel of predetermined amount to at least one cylinder (26), and operating the internal combustion engine (10) by burning the mixture inside the cylinder; inspecting at least one engine parameter; determining a temporary change in at least one engine parameter and/or unconformity of at least one engine parameter and a predetermined engine parameter table; and supplying pressing gaseous fluid in addition to the overcharged air to at least one cylinder (26) if the determined temporary change and/or the determined unconformity is greater than a predetermined critical value.
