There is provided a system and method for video conferencing that enables direct eye contact between a user and a remote user visually displayed on a display screen during a video conference, the system comprising: a camera module located adjacent to the display screen; a camera positioning system receiving an input providing an indication of a location on the display screen proximal to the eyes of the remote user as displayed on the display screen; and, the camera positioning system configured for automatically displacing the camera module to the indicated location on the display screen to enable direct eye contact.
