The fuel system for introducing liquid fuel into the cylinders of a piston engine comprises a fuel tank (1) for storing the fuel, a pump (2) for pressurizing the fuel, at least one fuel injector (3) for injecting fuel into a cylinder of the engine, and a fuel pipe (4) for supplying fuel from the pump (2) to the fuel injector (3). The fuel system further comprises a source of inert gas (7) and means (14, 21) for introducing inert gas into the fuel pipe (4) for purging the fuel pipe (4). |
