An organometallic compound of the present invention is characterized by being represented by chemical formula 1 (M_a^3+[M_b(OR_1)_5]_3^-). The organometallic compound increases the reactivity of carbon dioxide and an alcohol so as to prepare carbonic acid ester in high yield. In chemical formula 1, M_a is cerium, M_b is a metal in group 4 or group 14, and R_1 is a hydrocarbonyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms.
