PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a humidifying element and a method of manufacturing the humidifying element excellent not only in initial humidifying performance but also humidifying performance for a long period of time.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a humidifying element according to the present invention includes: applying a coating composition containing hydrophilic inorganic fine particles and water onto a porous base material; provisionally drying a coated article; and drying the coated article up to an absolute dry state by microwave heating. Furthermore, the humidifying element according to the present invention includes: the porous base material; and a hydrophilic coating film formed on the porous base material and containing hydrophilic inorganic fine particles, and a specific surface area of the hydrophilic coating film is not less than 100 m/g and not more than 350 m/g.
