PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve display quality of a vertical alignment liquid crystal display device.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device comprises: a first substrate and a second substrate; a first electrode 11 extending in a first direction; a second electrode 12 extending in a second direction intersecting with the first direction; and a monodomain vertical alignment liquid crystal layer provided between one surface of the first substrate and one surface of the second substrate and having a pretilt angle of less than 90°. Pixels are configured in a region where the first electrode 11 and the second electrode 12 intersect with each other. In plan view, the second electrode 12 has a zigzag shape in which at least one-side electrode edge includes a line segment obliquely intersecting with a second direction. The pixel defines a pixel edge including the obliquely intersecting line segment. In plan view, the liquid crystal layer is so set that an angle formed by a liquid crystal molecule alignment direction at substantial centre of a layer thickness direction and a direction orthogonal to the second direction is more than 0°, and that the liquid crystal molecule alignment direction is not orthogonal to the direction of the obliquely intersecting line segment. |
