The present invention provides apparatus and method for imaging a subject in a clinical examination. An apparatus of the present invention comprises a plurality of light sources (20) for illuminating a region of interest within the subject, the light sources including a first light source(220) with unpolarized light and a second light source (240) with polarized light; a switcher for selectively actuating one of the light sources to illuminate the region of interest; a polarizer (30) for directing light reflected by the subject, the polarizer being disposed to enable the directed light to be cross-polarized with the reflected polarized light of the second light source when the second light source is actuated; and a light detector(40) for receiving the directed light to image the region of interest. The apparatus can provide different images based on a clinical need in practice.
