PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce size of a spin torque oscillator sensor for reading in a very high data density.SOLUTION: A spin torque magnetic resistance sensor has a very narrow gap thickness. The sensor acts to detect the presence of a magnetic field by measuring variation in a frequency of spin torque induced magnetism oscillation in a magnetic layer of the sensor. The sensor comprises a pair of free magnetic layers, and these free magnetic layers are anti-parallel coupled by a thin non-magnetic coupling layer sandwiched between the free magnetic layers. The sensor contains neither a pinning layer structure nor a related AFM pinning layer. Consequently, the sensor can be constructed much thinner than a sensor of a conventional technology. |
