The invention relates to a method for optimizing the use of a non-volatile memory in a motor vehicle computer for monitoring a functional member of said motor vehicle using said motor vehicle computer (4), said computer being programmed for carrying out, during a given cycle, a start-up monitoring phase (P0) upon the activation thereof and a shut-down monitoring phase (P2) before the deactivation thereof, the computer including a standard counter (cs) adapted to be stored in a standard unit and a volley counter (Cv) adapted to be stored in a volley unit, the method comprising: a step incrementing (INCv) the volley counter (Cv) in order to identify a potential malfunction of said monitored functional member; a step of comparing (COMP) said volley counter (Cv) to the standard counter (Cs) during the next monitoring phase of the computer (P0, P2); and a step of generating information (DYS) representing a malfunction upon the detection of a deviation between said counters (Cs, Cv). |
