An electro-optical code reading terminal for dynamically switching mode of operation from a printed code reading mode to an electronically displayed code reading mode is provided. The electro-optical code reading terminal measures and monitors, using one or more magnetic sensors, a magnetic field experienced at the electro-optical code reading terminal. When the electro-optical code reading terminal device determines that a change in the measured magnetic field exceeds a predetermined threshold within a predetermined time period, the electro-optical code reading terminal device infers presence of an electronically displayed code. The electro-optical code reading terminal device then switches its mode of operation from the printed code reading mode of operation to the electronically displayed code reading mode of operation. |

1. An electro-optical code reading terminal comprising:
an energizable illumination system operative for illuminating objects positioned in a field of view of the electro-optical code reading terminal with illumination light; a solid-state, exposable imager having an array of light sensors and operative for capturing return illumination light from objects positioned in the field of view of the electro-optical code reading terminal; at least one magnetic sensor operative for measuring magnetic field experienced by the electro-optical code reading terminal; a controller operative for dynamically switching mode of operation of the electro-optical code reading terminal from a printed code reading mode of operation to an electronically displayed code reading mode of operation responsive to determining that a change in the measured magnetic field exceeds a predetermined threshold within a predetermined time period. |
