The invention provides a system for preventing inappropriate access of a monitoring device being part of an access control or alarm system in a premises, the system comprising: a state detector adapted to detect whether the access control or alarm system is armed or adapted to detect whether the access control or alarm system has activated an alarm; and a monitoring isolator adapted to prevent data from the monitoring device being accessed if the state detector has detected that the access control or alarm system is unarmed and/or has not activated an alarm.
