<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for treating a gas, in each of which the gas including a hardly-decomposable fluorine-containing compound can surely be detoxified efficiently and to provide a gas treating agent. <P>SOLUTION: The method for treating the gas includes a step of passing the gas including the fluorine-containing compound through a fluorine-containing compound reaction vessel packed with potassium carbonate under aerated conditions while heating the gas including the fluorine-containing compound to decompose the fluorine-containing compound (fluorine-containing compound decomposition).
