PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable power received by light irradiation on a photoreceptor drum surface for each color to come closer to an optimum state in each position of a photoreceptor drum in its rotational axis direction, regardless of whether or not the phase of the rotation angle of the rotary polyhedron of a laser scan unit for each color is synchronous. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 1 includes a set value storage unit 102 storing a first set value for making the quantity of light of a semiconductor laser 243 with which both ends of a photoreceptor drum 121 in its rotational axis direction are irradiated larger than the quantity of light of the semiconductor laser 243 with which the central part of the photoreceptor drum 121 in its rotational axis direction is irradiated and a second set value for making the quantity of light of the semiconductor laser 243 with which the whole area of the photoreceptor drum 121 in its rotational axis direction is irradiated constant. A semiconductor laser drive control unit 1012 controls the quantity of light of the semiconductor laser 243 by using the first set value, when phase synchronization is performed and the second set value, when the phase synchronization is not performed.
