The devolatilization method involves supplying polymer melt to an extruder (2) operated at a first speed of shafts so volatile components escape from the polymer melt via devolatilization ports (26,27) making polymer melt more viscous. The more viscous melt is supplied to a devolatilization unit (48) with perforated plate (54) and a clearance (55). The discharged melt from devolatilization unit is supplied to other extruder (4) operated at a speed of shafts (40,41) lower than first speed so other volatile components escape from the polymer melt via the other devolatilization ports. An independent claim is also included for a processing installation for devolatilization of polymer melts.
