Disclosed are a method for performing a deduplication process by linking a host device with a storage device, and a storage system. According to an embodiment, the host device for performing the deduplication process by being linked with at least one storage device includes a simple checking part checking whether data is duplicated or not based on a hash value of the data to be stored and a data transmitting part transmitting the data to be stored to the storage device with a data storage request or detailed checking request for data duplication according to the checking result.
