PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge performance inspection method allowing ready detection of discharge performance and an ink jet recorder. SOLUTION: A pre-coating head discharging a pre-coating liquid and an ink jet head discharging ink are disposed; the pre-coating liquid is landed on a dot position s1, and an ink droplet is landed on a dot position s2 which is adjacent to the dot position s1. Whether the pre-coating liquid has been properly landed on the dot position s1 is evaluated by evaluating the degree how the ink landed on the dot position s2 runs to the dot position s1.
