PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording head control method in which drop in print throughput can be suppressed while preventing a head coil from burning due to heating. SOLUTION: In the control method for a recording head 18 in a dot impact printer 100 where information is printed on a recording medium S by driving a recording wire 9 while scanning a carriage 19 mounting a recording head 18 having a plurality of recording wires 9, each recording wire 9 takes charge of printing of 1 dot line L in the scanning direction of the carriage 19. When the dot line L is printed, a determination is made whether or not reference number N (N is 2 or more) or more of preset specific dot patterns P1 and P2 are included in the dot line L to be printed before printing is performed, and downtime H between print operations of the dot line L is determined based on the result of determination.
