377,364. Walls. MCLEAN, D., 32, Queen Alexandra Road West, North Shields, Northumberland. June 1, 1931, No. 15934. [Class 20 (iv).] Relates to an improved means of bracing a woodframed wall, such as that described in Specification 238,332, [Class 20 (iv), Floors &c.]. As shown, the frame comprises a head E and sill E<1> joined by a plurality of studs A of equal width, strengthening boards D being added at the top and bottom. The braces C are nailed in position across the studs A, being arranged with their bottom ends at the bottom corners of the frame and their top ends at the top centre of the frame, and the boards D are cut to accommodate the ends of the braces. Finally, the furring battens B are cut into suitable lengths and nailed across the studs A with their ends abutting against the braces C, to which they may also be nailed. The members B, C, D, which are preferably of the same thickness, are duplicated on the other side of the frame, and serve to support the covering slabs of the wall. After the slabs are applied, the structure may be further strengthened by the application of expanded metal and a final cement rendering.
|
