A secondary battery according to the present invention comprises an electrode assembly; a first lead plate connected to the electrode assembly; a second lead plate facing the first lead plate with a gap therebetween to at least partially overlap each other; a metal bridge inserted in the gap to connect the first electrode lead and the second lead plate; a first sealant inserted in the gap; a pouch case for receiving the electrode assembly so that the second lead plate can be drawn out; and second sealants inserted respectively between the inner surface of the pouch case and the first lead plate and between the inner surface of the pouch case and the second lead plate. According to the present invention, it is possible to ensure the safety of a secondary battery in use as over-current flowing through the secondary battery can be blocked rapidly and gas can be discharged rapidly to the outside if the internal pressure is above a certain level due to the gas generated inside the secondary battery.
