The present invention relates to a germination device for a plant seed comprising a plant seed receptacle (2) arranged to receive a plant seed. The device further comprises a hydrocel (4) comprising a water reservoir (10) and an air chamber (12). The hydrocel (4) is arranged to receive the plant seed receptacle (2). The device further comprises a seedbase (6) arranged to receive at least a portion of the hydrocel (4) and adapted to provide heat and/or water to the hydrocel (4).
