PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of making paper which enables both improving yield and freeness of a papermaking stock on a wire and improving a strength of produced paper without impairing a formation in a manufacturing process of paper and cardboard. SOLUTION: A method is provided in which a water-soluble polymer consisting of a polymer dispersion produced by a dispersion polymerization method and having a weight-average molecular weight of 5 million to 10 million is added to a papermaking stock before making paper. Also, further effect can be obtained by making a part of a main papermaking stock flow passed through the last screen a bypass flow, further dividing the bypass flow into two split flows, and then mixing the water soluble polymer and the two split flows using mixing means, and then returning the mixture to a part of the main papermaking stock flow.
