<p>A drive unit 10 for a trailer, particularly a caravan, comprises at least one drive 26, 27, a power source 14, for example a 12 volt battery, and a mount 29, 30, 31 securable to the trailer. Drive means 12 rotates a trailer wheel about a trailer axle, and an actuator 24 is provided to allow drive 26 to selectively engage the wheel to transmit motion, for example through roller 22. Power source 14 is connected to drive 26 through detachable power leads 106 and is housed in a portable case 14, preferably with a control box 34 actuable using a remote control 130, and which may be supported on the trailer in use. Power leads 106 may be external to the trailer without needing a passageway through a trailer body shell. Drive unit 10 is suitably provided as a kit readily retrofittable to the trailer.</p> |
