The invention relates to a flood barrier assembly and comprises a barrier adapted to move between raised and lowered positions. The barrier is operated by flood water entering inlet pipe 1 a through non-return valve 3 to fill chamber 4 which is hermetically sealed to the diaphragm housing 5. The head of water compresses the air in tube 6 causing a pressure to be created within the tube which acts on diaphragm 7. The diaphragm preferably has a cage 8 and cup 9 to maintain its shape. As the pressure is exerted on the diaphragm 7 it moves shaft 10 which is connected to a rack 12 and pinion 14 which is in turn connected to the bottom of the barrier 15. As the pinion 14 turns the barrier is raised until it contacts a stanchion 17. |
