The present invention relates to a negative electrode active material for a lithium rechargeable battery, a preparation method thereof, and the lithium rechargeable battery comprising the same. More specifically, provided is a negative electrode active material for a lithium rechargeable battery comprising: a core unit including spherical graphite; and a coating layer coated on the surface of the core unit and including a low-crystallized carbon material, wherein pore volume under 2000 nm is lower than or equal to 0.08 ml/g and tap density is more than or equal to 1.1 g/cm^3.
