The invention provides a biaxially oriented film having a microporous layer, which contains a propylene polymer and at least one p-nucleating agent and whose microporosity is generated by converting .beta.-crystalline polypropylene into .alpha.-rystalline polypropylene during stretching of the film, wherein the Gurley value of the microporous layer is in a range from 100,000 to 500,000 seconds or in a range of greater than 50 to 300,000 seconds. The film may be used for labelling containers in deep drawing.
