PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide mycosporin-like amino acids, production methods thereof, UV protecting agents and antioxidants.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a method for producing a mycosporin-like amino acid comprising the steps of extracting and isolating the chemical compound represented by Formula (1) or a salt thereof from a cyanobacterium of the genus Nostoc with a solvent such as water.
