PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic compound, a polymeric organic compound, a polymeric organic compound production method, a polyelectrolyte membrane, a polyelectrolyte, a membrane electrode assembly and a fuel cell which are capable of improving oxidation resistance.SOLUTION: There is provided an organic compound characterized by having a divalent pyridonediyl group comprising a pyridone ring having a -Z-PO(OR)(OR) substituent represented by the general formula (1) in the figure. In the general formula (1), Z represents a divalent organic group, and Rand Reach independently represent H or a monovalent organic group.
