PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a catalyst for producing methacrylic acid, which catalyst can allow the methacrylic acid to be produced at an excellent conversion ratio and with excellent selectivity.SOLUTION: The method for producing the catalyst for producing methacrylic acid, in which catalyst comprises a heteropoly acid compound L that contains phosphorus, molybdenum and a specific element X and has an atomic ratio (X/Mo) of the specific element X to the molybdenum within a specific range, comprises: a step (1) of mixing another heteropoly acid compound M obtained by heat-treating the heteropoly acid compound L at 300°C or higher temperature, a nitrate radical, an ammonium radical and water to obtain aqueous slurry A the atomic ratio (X/Mo) of which is adjusted within another specific range; a step (2) of mixing water with at least a molybdenum compound of compounds each containing a constituent element of the heteropoly acid compound L to obtain different aqueous slurry B the atomic ratio (X/Mo) of which is adjusted within a different specific range; a step (3) of mixing the aqueous slurry A with the aqueous slurry B to obtain separate aqueous slurry C; and a step (4) of drying/firing the obtained aqueous slurry C. |
