PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is capable of reducing power consumption while an auxiliary power supply is driven, and to provide a power supply control method.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: a main power supply; an auxiliary power supply to which power from the main power supply is charged and which supplies the charged power; a power supply control part which performs control of switching the power supply source to the auxiliary power supply when the main power supply is off and control of switching the power supply source to the main power supply when the main power supply is on; a detection part for detecting whether the power supply source is the main power supply or the auxiliary power supply; a communication mode control part for performing control of switching a data transfer speed from a first high speed mode to a first low speed mode of which power consumption is suppressed as compared with the first high speed mode when the power supply source detected by the detection part is the auxiliary power supply; and a printing mode control part for performing control of switching a printing speed from a second high speed mode to a second low speed mode of which power consumption is suppressed as compared with the second high speed mode when the power supply source detected by the detection part is the auxiliary power supply. |
