PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate development of an option substrate to be connected to an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: An MFP includes: a main CPU set as a root complex of PCIExpress; a start-up CPU 21 for controlling start-up of the main CPU; a connector which connects an option substrate on which a sub CPU set as the root complex of the PCIExpress is mounted. The start-up CPU 21 includes: a detection unit 61 which detects the option substrate connected to the connector; an acquisition unit 63 which acquires capability information on the option substrate before starting the main CPU when the option substrate is detected; a selection unit 65 which selects one of the main CPU and the sub CPU on the basis of the acquired capability information; and a switching unit 73 which starts the selected main CPU or sub CPU as a root complex.
