PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the scale of a compensation circuit necessary for nonlinear distortion small in signal processing in an optical receiver of an optical communication system.SOLUTION: A nonlinear compensation unit 300 comprises a compensation unit 350. The compensation unit 350 generates a coefficient exp(-j&thetas;) to nonlinearly compensate each of two polarization signals E(D), E(D) so as to cancel the amount of phase rotation &thetas; calculated on the basis of signal strength of four polarization signals E(D), E(D), E(D), E(D) in a plurality of different residual dispersion values. |
