PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To combine color reproducibility with dot reproducibility in proof processing for reproducing a dot image.SOLUTION: First dot image data 501 expressing dots printed by an offset printer is divided into contour area data 503 indicating the contour area of the dots and non contour area data 502 indicating a non contour area that is not the contour area. Then, image processing which emphasizes color reproducibility is applied to the non contour area data 502 to obtain non contour area data 504 having the image processing applied thereto. Second dot image data which can be printed by a proof machine is generated on the basis of the non contour area data 504 and the contour area data 503.
