The present invention relates to a positive electrode active material precursor for a lithium secondary battery, a positive electrode active material for the lithium secondary battery, a manufacturing method thereof, and the lithium secondary battery using the same. Provided is the method for manufacturing the positive electrode active material for the lithium secondary battery comprising the steps of: synthesizing a nickel composite hydroxide; treating the nickel composite hydroxide by metal alkoxide sol and forming a coating layer in which metal of the metal alkoxide sol is coated on the surface of the nickel composite hydroxide; mixing the nickel composite hydroxide in which metal of the metal alkoxide sol is coated on the surface and obtaining a mixture; and sintering the mixture and obtaining a positive electrode active material.
