The device has a stack of a thermal insulating layer (2) intended to be fixed to a supporting wall (1). A protection layer (3) includes reinforcing fibers, and a finishing layer (4) defines the final appearance of a facade of a building, where the finishing layer includes a projected coating of cork having a thickness approximately between 1.8 mm and 2.2 mm. The percentage in volume of cork compared to total volume of the coating after drying is equal to 80 percent, where the thickness of the thermal insulating layer is between 20 mm and 300 mm. An independent claim is also included for a method for thermal insulation from the outside of a facade of a building.
