PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin polarizing film having high optical characteristics and a production method of the polarizing film.SOLUTION: The polarizing film comprises a PVA resin with a dichroic substance oriented therein, formed on an amorphous ester-based thermoplastic resin substrate in a continuous web form, and has a thickness of 10 μm or less. The polarizing film has optical characteristic values comprising a single layer transmittance T and a polarization rate P in the ranges expressed by inequalities of P>-(10-1)×100 (under the condition of T<42.3) and P≥99.9 (under the condition of T≥42.3). The ranges of the optical characteristic values comprising the single layer transmittance T and the polarization rate P represented by the above inequalities are performances required for a display of a liquid crystal television set using a large display element.
