Embodiments of the invention include methods for treating schizophrenia and/or symptoms of schizophrenia and/or a positive symptom of schizophrenia in a psychotic disease as well as methods for preparing medicaments used in the treatment of mammalian schizophrenia. In one embodiment, methods of the invention comprise the inhibition of alpha4 integrin by a genus of compounds for the treatment of mammalian schizophrenia or a positive symptom of schizophrenia in a psychotic disease.
