A microorganism testing method, the method being provided with a sample preparation step which involves: a fluorescent staining step in which a specific amount of a sample and a fluorescent staining reagent are stirred and mixed; a standing step in which the solution following the fluorescent staining step is let stand for a specific period of time; and a diluting step in which the solution following the standing step is diluted with a liquid which does not fluoresce.
