The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for identifying a designated electronic device and a download server able to download a program identifying an electronic device, to automatically identify the electronic device by comparing the recognition of a sound signal outputted according to a change in the operation of the electronic device through a remote controller interface. By using the present invention, an electronic device to be controlled is automatically identified. Moreover, a control code set to be used for the identified electronic device can be obtained.
