1. A method for assessing whether an individual will loose more weight when consuming a low fat/high carbohydrate diet or when consuming a high fat/low carbohydrate diet, the method comprising the step of determining the genotype of the single nucleotide polymorphism rs987237 in the TFAP2B gene, wherein:
(i) the presence of two A allelic forms of the SNP rs987237 is indicative of an increased likelihood that the individual looses more weight on a low fat/high carbohydrate diet compared to a high fat/low carbohydrate diet and, (ii) the presence of AG or GG allelic forms of the SNP rs987237 is indicative of an increased likelihood that the individual looses more weight on a high fat/low carbohydrate diet compared to a low fat/high carbohydrate diet. |
