Employing a predetermined number of element groups of a probe as apertures, the apertures of positive phase and the apertures of negative phase corresponding to the apertures of the positive phase transmit an ultrasonic beam to an inspection target while undergoing predetermined phase reversal, and ultrasonic echo signals generated by interaction between the ultrasonic beam and the inspection target are received through the plurality of elements of the probe. Then, two or more sets of element data generated upon reception of ultrasonic echo signals generated for each of at least two or more overlapping target areas, and including reception time information in each element, are held, and on the basis of the reception time information in each of the elements, the held element data is superimposed, and an acoustic ray signal in a single scan line is generated. |
