PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce possibility of extracting a place name which does not exist when extracting the common place name or a new place name from a document.SOLUTION: A place name extraction device 10 comprises: a document storage section 1 for storing a document containing text data; a POI storage unit 2 for storing a POI which is data pointing to a point which really exists; and a document processing unit 5 for extracting a place name on the basis of representation of the POI from the document.
