The objective of the present invention is to provide an organic electroluminescent element which is free from emission unevenness, has high shape accuracy, and is capable of emission pattern switching. An organic EL element (1) according to the present invention is characterized by comprising, on a supporting substrate (2), at least two light emitting units (6, 10), each of which has one or more organic functional layers, and at least one light-transmitting intermediate metal layer (8). This organic EL element (1) is also characterized in that: the intermediate metal layer (8) is arranged between the light emitting units (6, 10); at least one organic functional layer of each light emitting unit (6, 10) has a region wherein the light emission function is modulated and another region wherein the light emission function is not modulated by being mask patterned during the step for forming the organic functional layer and by being additionally patterned by light irradiation after the formation of the organic functional layer; and the at least two light emitting units (6, 10) can be electrically driven independently or simultaneously. |
