A coating device is applied to manufacturing a color filter substrate and comprises a roller and a caulking device, a plurality of openings are disposed on the outer surface of the roller and have the same shape as that of color pixel units of a to-be-coated substrate, the roller is further provided with a cavities communicated with the openings, and the cavities are used for accommodating gel; and the caulking device is used for pressing the gel out of the cavities through the openings. Further disclosed is a color filter substrate manufacturing process, comprising: providing a substrate, which is provided with a predetermined area for forming the patterns of color filter units; and coating in the predetermined area of the substrate by the coating device to form the patterns of the color filter units.
