PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for the manufacture of a 1,2-epoxide by catalytic oxidation of a terminal olefin using hydrogen peroxide and a manganese complex, which substantially does not form a byproduct such as a diol and can be commercially achieved.SOLUTION: A process for the manufacture of a 1,2-epoxide comprises catalytically oxidizing a terminal olefin with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a catalyst, in a biphasic system comprising an organic phase and an aqueous reaction medium, wherein a water-soluble manganese complex is used as oxidation catalyst, and the molar ratio of the terminal olefin to hydrogen peroxide is in the range of from 1:0.1 to 1:2. The water-soluble manganese complex is a manganese complex containing a polydentate ligand of triazacyclononane or a substituted triazacyclononane.
|
