<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition device for an internal combustion engine which can suppress an overcurrent without installing an overcurrent detection resistor that may be a heat generation source in the device, and does not complicate a circuit configuration.SOLUTION: In an ignition device 10 for an internal combustion engine, a current flowing to a primary coil 11a of an ignition coil 11 from an in-vehicle battery 2 is controlled by controlling electricity-carrying to an igniter 12, an induction power of a secondary coil 11b which is magnetically coupled via an iron core is controlled, and an electrical spark is generated at a discharge gap of an ignition plug 3. The igniter 2 is constituted of an IGBT 13, a voltage between a gate and an emitter is reduced by connecting a low resistance element 14 to an emitter line in series thereto, a conduction capacity (flow rate of a collector current Ic and a saturation current value) of the IGBT 3 is lowered, an overcurrent is prevented from flowing to the ignition coil 11, an overcurrent protection function is achieved without installing an overcurrent protection circuit or the like of a complicated structure, and heat generation of the resistance element 14 itself can be suppressed.</p> |
