Disclosed is a technology related to a method and apparatus for extending the life of a storage battery for a photovoltaic power generation system. A method of extending the life of a storage battery includes: a step of monitoring a use of the storage battery to extract a discharge start voltage at a discharge start time point and a discharge end voltage at a discharge end time point; a step of calculating a voltage variation amount with discharge time of the storage battery based on the discharge start voltage and the discharge end voltage; a step of collecting a voltage variation amount with discharge time of the storage battery calculated in a preset period, to calculate a discharge rate of the storage battery in a specific period; and a step of comparing discharge rates of the storage battery in specific periods to adjust the discharge end voltage. Thus, the life of a storage battery can be efficiently extended.
