The present invention relates to a relay server and a method of controlling the relay server. The method of controlling the relay server, which performs a communication relay process between a terminal and an application server, according to the present invention, includes the steps of: determining a failure generation state of the application server based on communication with the application server; receiving a transmission message, which is directed to the application server from the terminal; and transmitting a normal reply signal to the terminal in response to the transmission message when a failure occurs at the current application server.
