An antenna comprises one or more antenna arrays 4 and a plurality of radio frequency (RF) transmitter and/or receiver modules 3. The RF modules 3 are contained in a housing 2 comprising a ventilation inlet 8 and an exhaust outlet 9, wherein a ventilation driver 6 (e.g. fan, impeller) drives an air flow through the housing 2. RF modules 3 are spaced to define a ventilation gap populated by heat conductive fins, strips or pins 30 projecting from a surface 10, which generates turbulence to increase the rate of heat exchange. Pin diameter and spacing may be selected to achieve turbulence according to the fluid or gas coolant used. Apertures 12, 13 may be formed between the modules 3 and antenna arrays 4 to control the air flow. The ventilation driver 6 may include a cooling unit comprising a heat exchanger and heaters for cooling or heating the ambient air input. |
