A device 100 for forming a hole in a surface for subsequent insertion of a tack into the hole comprising a housing 2, a means 9 for holding a detachable hole forming rod member 8, means 11 for turning the hole forming rod member and a moveable base 7 which is adapted to retract into a base receiving portion 12 of the housing so as to urge the hole forming rod member forward to form a hole in the surface. The method for using this device comprises placing it against a surface, such as a plaster wall, rotating the means for turning the hole forming rod member causing it to penetrate the surface and further rotating this means until the base is retracted and compresses into the base receiving portion of the housing. The base may be pivotable to allow the hole to be at an angle. |
