PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce interference of a sheet-like member for shutting off a charging area with other members by appropriately moving the sheet-like member. SOLUTION: An electrifying device has: a corona electrifier for electrifying an image carrier; a sheet-like shutter which opens and closes an opening of the corona electrifier; and a mechanism for winding up the shutter. The mechanism is capable of switching between a winding direction in which the surface of the shutter facing the corona electrifier faces inward and a winding direction in which the surface of the shutter facing the corona electrifier faces outward.
